Where and When |
Known only from four specimens collected
during the nineteenth century on Réunion (French Territory) in the
Indian Ocean, two birds found dead in the 1970s, by subfossil remains on
Rodrigues (Mauritius), and by rare observations of birds in the waters
south of Réunion since 1964, notably in October--March and with
3-5 seen off the St Etienne estuary on 30 October 1989. Threats are unknown,
but must include the illegal hunting known to afflict Barau's Petrel P.
baraui.
