Great White Heron on Staten Island,
New York
During September 2001, a Great White Heron was
discovered at Wolfe Pond Park in Staten Island, Richmond County, New York.
Here are some photographs of the bird as it roosted in a tree overlooking
the creek that runs under Hylan Boulevard. Unfortunately, the bird was
partially blocked by foliage hence the mediocre shots. Readily distinguished
from Great Egret by the heavy bicolored bill and pale legs.

bluish quills on some of the tertials.
