Relationship to Matsudaira's
Storm-Petrel is a little unclear, and may represent a pairing akin to the
cool- and hot-season breeding populations of Band-rumped Storm-petrel (discussed
in Monteiro and Furness, 1998).

Central Pacific. Breeds
on the Osagawara (formerly known as Bonin) Islands and Izu Islands of Japan
as well as in the Hawaiian Leeward Chain.
